If you ever NEED to uninstall/reinstall FSX again, you can simply copy your backed up virgin FSX bact to where ever you want. External HD, DVD's, a seperate drive, whatever. Once you have FSX installed, BEFORE you put anything back into it, make a back-up of the "virgin" installation someplace safe. Scenery, gauges, AIplanes, TTools, whatever.
mdl used, it is almost certainly an FS2004-formatted model, which cannot be used.
mdls in the model folder and called out in the model.cfg one for external and one for internal. If you DO decide to uninstall FSX, make sure you back up ALL your add-ons first. Make sure that you are using an FSX-formatted model.

I've heard of drivers causing FSX to crash/not load. Try rolling back you drivers to the previous version, and see if that fixes your problem.
